Sharon Township, Ohio was founded in 1831. The township’s history actually began fifteen years earlier with the arrival of families of squatters. It was initially called Hart and Mather’s Woods after the original owners, then Gask after the surveyor’s parish in Scotland. However, when it came to giving the township a permanent name upon its organization, Asenath Hayden suggested the name Sharon, her Connecticut hometown.

Today, with a population of more than 5,000, the face of the township is changing rapidly and includes three industrial parks along with a myriad of assorted businesses. In spite of steadily increasing growth, Sharon Township still retains its charm as exemplified in the pictures on our home page.
