On
April 1, 2004, Ben Sommers took office as Lake Township’s
Fiscal Officer. As Fiscal Officer he is responsible for
the records and the day to day financial needs of the township.
Ben began his public service with Lake Township in 1987
when he accepted a position on the Lake Township Zoning
Commission. He has since filled the end of an unexpired
term on the Board of Township Trustees, and then took an
appointment on the Board of Zoning Appeals. He is currently
into his 19th year of public service and his first term
as Fiscal Officer.
As a lifelong resident
and businessman in Lake Township, Ben has served on countless
boards and committees in his church and community. He
recently accepted a seat on the Board for the Ohio Government
Risk Management Plan and he is the current acting President
of the Hartville Homes MRDD and the Hartville Homes Facility
Board.
Ben, the oldest
of ten brothers and sisters, and the husband of Marie,
his wife of 41 years, live together on a thirteen acre
farm in Lake Township. There he raises horses and restores
old John Deere tractors. He and Marie had three children
and recently became the proud grandparents of a baby boy.
