Fire and EMS

Hanover Township has a volunteer and part time paid officers with a total complement of approximately 54 people who are trained in fire fighting and emergency medical services as well as in many specialty areas such hazardous materials to serve the residents of the Township. Currently there is one main station in the geographic center of the Township located at 1775 Morman Road just south of the intersection of Old Oxford Road (SR 130).

The Fire Department has personnel on call 24 hours per day and covers 36 square miles of territory. Over the last 13 years runs have increased over 700% as the Township grows and new challenges are presented. The Department is lead by Phil Clark, Fire Chief and Fred Stitsinger, Deputy Fire Chief. The Department offers CPR classes, fire prevention education, holiday presentations, youth instruction, and special topics. All emergency calls are routed through the County Dispatch “911” number. Administrative calls can be directed to 863-6653 or 896-9059 (Township Administration) as an alternate.

The Fire Department currently has an Insurance Services Office Rating of “4” which puts the Department in the top 15% of the State of Ohio. In addition to fire pumpers, rescue units, and life squads, the Township is home for the location of many pieces of County Emergency Management Services Equipment for use by all townships. Thanks to the generosity of the electorate, the Fire Department is predominantly funded by a 1.75 mil tax levy which was approved in November 2006 with additional revenue derived from private insurance reimbursements. Through this support, the Department is able to offer the finest response equipment and well trained personnel. In May 2010 a 12,165 square foot addition was finished allowing all equipment to be housed under one roof and provided a training site for Fire/Ems operations. This project was funded locally and will enable the Department to better serve the public for years to come. Residents are welcome to tour the Fire Station by calling 863-6653.

The Fire Department is always interested in attracting additional personnel to serve in the Fire and EMS functions. Anyone interested in serving the community in this type of capacity may pick up applications at the Township Administration Building located at 2595 Old Oxford Road. Applicants must pass a background check and physical as well as be recommend by the Fire Administration for appointment which must be approved by the Township Board of Trustees.
