Grafton Township Cemeteries

Grafton Township maintains the Belden Cemetery on State Route 303 between Route 83 and Island Road, Nesbett Cemetery on State Route 57 between Mennel and State Route 83, and the Nicholes Aldrich Cemetery on State Route 303 between Vermont and Chamberlain. If the deceased is a township resident the use of the Town Hall for a luncheon is available at no charge. Contact Bob Richards at 440-926-2354 to make arrangements. Rules and Regulations Revised and Adopted – April 10, 2007 by the Grafton Township Trustees.

  • All cemeteries are open from sunrise to sunset.
  • Only human remains are permitted to be buried in our cemeteries and there will be no discrimination of race, color or creed.
  • No wooden vaults or outer boxes are acceptable.
  • No mausoleums or crypts shall be permitted.
  • Flush headstones must be placed in the newer sections. Raised headstones are permitted in the older sections.
  • Headstones shall consist of marble, granite, metal or recycle plastic; any other material must be approved by the Trustees.
  • A cemetery lot shall be paid in full before receiving the deed.
  • Neither the Trustees nor the Sexton will be responsible for injuries incurred to persons walking in the cemetery or for damage to headstones beyond reasonable care.
  • If you are a resident of Grafton Township when you go into a nursing home, you may purchase a cemetery lot at the resident rate at any time, even if you have sold your property.
  • No pets are allowed in the cemeteries. • No hunting, loitering or littering will be permitted.
  • No permanent grave decorations, such as lawn ornaments, fences, toys or statues, will be permitted or glass containers. Artificial flowers are permitted. Permanent, in ground, inverted vases are recommended.
  • Decorating around the headstones with marble chips, stones, wood chips, bricks, etc. is not permitted, as they are detrimental to our lawn mowers and the persons operating them.
  • Shepherds hooks and Veterans markers are permitted they must be placed close to the headstone, so they do not obstruct the mowing of the grass.
  • Only the Township can plant trees, shrubs or flowers. If any tree or shrub becomes a nuisance, by means of its roots, branches or otherwise, the Trustees shall have the right to remove them or any part of them, as they shall determine necessary.
  • All winter decorations must be removed 2 weeks before Easter, or the Township will dispose of them. Easter, Mothers Day, Memorial Day and Fathers Day decorations are to be removed 14 days after the date. Any withered or faded flowers will be removed at the discretion of the Trustees.
  • Please keep decorations at a minimum during mowing season, which is April 1st – October 31st.
  • Do not drive on the grass areas at any time.
