Bowling Green Township has open volunteer positions on the Zoning Commission board and the Appeals board. At the May 31st regular Township meeting, the Board accepted a bid from Big O Refuse to be our township's single trash hauler! This will save everyone in the township money on their monthly trash bill and will also save unnecessary trash truck traffic on our roads. The park was updated with the assistance of a NatureWorks grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). NatureWorks is a program for which local governments can apply for up to 75 percent reimbursement grants (state funding) for acquisition, development, or rehabilitation of public park and recreation areas. Across the state in 2010, ODNR awarded 77 grants for a total of $1.6 million. The Bowling Green Township grant for $19,993 was one of two grants awarded in Licking County. The process began when the township Park Committee conducted research on the grant application, created initial plans, and solicited quotes for equipment in 2009. A team of people including Township Officers, Park Committee, and other volunteers compiled an 80 page application which was submitted in February 2010. The grant was awarded in August 2010 and construction began in May 2011. A collaborate effort from local community volunteers, Township Officers, and township employees along with donations from local businesses allowed the construction to be completed in June 2011.
