Fire Department

Barlow VFD was established in 1947 as a Volunteer Fire Department.  The original piece of fire equipment was a 250 gallon trailer with a portable fire pump and miscellaneous hose and nozzles.  The first member to arrive at the fire station connected the trailer to his personal vehicle.

Barlow VFD has upgraded its fire response equipment over the years.  Currently the fleet includes:

  • 2003 Pierce Contender CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) engine with a 1250 GPM pump and 1000 gallons of water.  This rescue engine carries rescue/extrication tools as well as fire fighting equipment.
  • 1998 Pierce Contender pumper equipped with Class A foam.  It has a 1250 GPM pump with 1000 gallons of water.
  • 1983 Quality Fire tanker/pumper.  It is equipped with a 500 GPM PTO pump and carries 1600 gallons of water.
Barlow VFD added EMS services in 1978, and currently operates two ambulances in a combination BLS/ALS service.
In 2008 Barlow VFD responded to 71 fire responses and 235 EMS calls.

Contacting the Fire Department

As a reminder to our residents, it is most important that all calls for emergency assistance be placed through the 9-1-1 system.  Dialing 9-1-1 connects the caller directly to an Emergency Dispatcher who will notify the appropriate Fire and EMS units for your area.  The business number for the Fire Department (740-678-2413) should only be used for non-emergency purposes.

The best rule to follow is if you require Fire or EMS assistance please dial 9-1-1.  Thank you.
