OTA Video

The State Association was formed in 1928 for the preservation and promotion of township government in Ohio. The educational tools available from the Ohio Township Association are here to help educate and keep alive pertinent information on township government and what the townships do for their communities. The video, “Township Government in Ohio: Our Grassroots of Democracy” is a valuable resource as township officials strive to educate their residents and communities concerning the functions and responsibilities of township government in Ohio. The Educational Packet includes supplemental materials with the video to assist township officials willing to go into their local schools and talk to students about township government.

The educational packet contains:

• The video is 15 minutes in length and focuses on the history of township government, the differences between townships and other governmental subdivisions, and the responsibilities and duties of township officials.

• The text of the video is included to help you familiarize yourself with the material before entering the classroom.

• The 12 question worksheet can be filled out by the students while they are viewing the video presentation.

• The Key Terms and Definitions handout can be passed out to students to ensure that they are familiar with key concepts before the video begins.

• The State Association distributes History and Functions brochures free of charge to townships who will be using them in the classroom. For this reason, there is a place on the order form to indicate how many brochures you will need when you go into the school. Again, these are free of charge when used for educational purposes.

• Lastly, a brief questionnaire has been included to help officials supplement the general information in the video with information more pertinent and unique to their own township.

Though geared specifically to the education of students, there are many other uses for the video. It can be distributed to local television stations to accompany a human interest story that occurred in your township or played during township open houses, county meetings or other township events.

The OTA video can be a valuable resource as township officials strive to educate their residents and communities concerning the functions and responsibilities of township government in Ohio. Print out an Educational Tools Order Form and mail it to the State Association office today to receive your copy!
