Legislative Alerts

The OTA periodically sends legislative alerts via e-mail. These alerts explain important issues going on at the General Assembly. Due to inactivity at the Legislature, there have been no alerts issued recently. Please check back regularly.

HB 9 Public Records (126th General Assembly)

Last General Assembly, several changes were made to the state's public records laws. One change made to the law requires all local governments to implement a public records policy. It was charged to the Attorney General to write a sample policy for local governments to follow. The AG did publish a model policy, however, the State Association does not endorse or support the policy being distributed by the AG's office. The State Association has contracted with the law firm of Isaac Brant Ledman & Teetor to develop a sample public records policy specifically for township governments.

HB 694 Pay to Play (126th General Assembly)

In the waning hours of the 126th General Assembly, a bill was passed that impacts local governments. The bill extends to most local governments statutory provisions intended to discourage pay to play contracts between authorities and vendors.

Changes to HB 694 law were made in HB 119, the state's budget bill. Please review the legislative alert from Monday, July 2 for more information.
