Eaton Township - Special Projects

"A rural community growing into the future"

Special Township Projects

Eaton Township does its part to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle by means of a variety of programs.

In the spring and fall, Eaton Township holds “Dumpster Days.”  Dumpsters are set up in the parking lot of the Town Hall and residents can dispose of accumulated refuse they would otherwise have to pay to have hauled to a nearby landfill.  The refuse is separated and Reed’s Salvage is on the grounds to recycle aluminum, steel, batteries, and appliances.  When available Ross Environmental Services also participates in the “Dumpster Days” and is available on the premises to take household hazardous waste.

Eaton Township always keeps residents aware of the Countywide Collections of hazardous waste and tires by means of notification in the Rural-Urban Record under Eaton News.

An aluminum can drop off is available 365 days of the year behind the Eaton Township Fire Station.  These cans are collected and used to aid burn victims. Newspapers and recyclable plastics and glass containers can also be recycled year round.

Eaton Township’s Compost Site is open to residents on Saturdays from April through November. The hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Any changes in days and hours are noted under Eaton News in the Rural-Urban Record.  Residents can bring leaves, grass clippings, and brush to this location.  The Township has a contractor that will grind brush twice a year.  The mulch is used throughout the Township Park and cemetery.  When an excess of mulch is available, residents can pick up mulch at no charge.

The fall leaf collection program for all residents in Eaton Township will begin each year on the fourth Monday in October and continue through all of November. Click here for more information.

Another Township special project is the “Adopt-A-Highway” program in which a local service organization “adopts” the responsibility of periodically walking that portion of the road it has selected and picking up the litter.  Churches, 4-H groups, and scout organizations participate in the program. Groups are encouraged to pick-up litter at least twice per year.
